Especially for live events and public displays of your wall on websites and digital signage, moderation of posts is crucial. Through both manual tools and AI-powered filters, Walls.io's moderation features give you full control over what is published to your wall.

To set up moderation controls, head over to the Moderation panel:

🌟 Walls.io Tip: We recommend choosing “Automatic” moderation for your wall since the core idea of a social wall revolves around auto-updates and letting people take part in something as it happens.

Let our filters do most of the work for you, and then review individual posts later if you feel you need to override decisions made by the filters to refine your wall to your exact preferences 🙂

Settings

From the Settings page, you can choose between Automatic and Manual moderation.

Automatic

With automatic moderation, posts are displayed automatically unless they contain keywords or phrases that have been blocklisted.

1. You can enter the keywords to avoid based on your specific use case or brand. For example, if you want to make sure that competitors are not featured on your wall.

2. On top of your own keywords, we also recommend that you enable our default Blocklist as it contains over 400 phrases of profanity and inappropriate language that should be excluded from your wall.

💡 Hint: Our default blocklist contains words from multiple languages.

You can also activate filters to ensure that the automatic moderation is even more refined. Read more about it in the Filters section.

Manual

With manual moderation, all posts are hidden until you have manually approved them for publishing.

You can add keywords to your Allow list (such as your brand name) so that posts containing these words are automatically displayed, bypassing the manual moderation.

If you have chosen manual moderation, you can approve posts at Moderation > Posts.

Click Show to display the post and execute other actions using their corresponding buttons for that post.

🎥 Moderate individual posts in 4 minutes

In this Quick Start Guide video, we'll show you how to moderate and refine individual posts.

Posts

In Moderation > Posts, you can manually decide what to do with a specific post. Even if you have selected Automatic moderation you can still utilize these manual options below:

A. Hide or Show post: Determine if you want this post to display on your wall. Posts that are hidden will be grayed out in the moderation panel and labelled accordingly.

B. Pin: Click this button if you would like your post to display at the top of your wall. A pinned post will feature an icon in the top corner.

C. Report Spam: If you believe the post is spam, you can use this button to ensure it gets hidden and this user's content is not shown again.

D. Language: Switch the post's language by selecting from the list.

E. Whitelist User: Click here if you would like to display posts by specific users without having to manually approve them. Posts coming from that user will be displayed automatically moving forward.

F. CTA: You can add a call-to-action button to any post on your Social Wall, whether it’s a post by a visitor or one of your native posts.

In the pop-up window, choose a label from the dropdown list and add the link you want your visitors to be redirected to.

The post will display on the wall with the CTA button below.

Filters

Walls.io uses different filters to streamline the moderation process. These filters help refine the capabilities of the automatic moderation.

⚠️ Please note: These filters are only available with automatic moderation. Otherwise, an error message will display if you are using manual moderation.

Types of Filters

Content Type

If you would like only certain types of content to display, you can enable/disable them here.

Duplicate Post

Sometimes, there may be duplicate content that you don't want displayed on your wall. For example, if you post the same caption on LinkedIn and Instagram on your company accounts, you likely don't want those posts to show up twice on your social wall.

Our software automatically checks to see if there is a high similarity in text between posts and filters it out to avoid displaying duplicate posts and retweets.

🔎 Please note: This filter analyzes only text and not images or videos.

Multiple Images

Platforms like Instagram allow you to display multiple images in a carousel. If you would like to display only the cover image of the carousel in a post on your social wall, you can use the Multiple Images Filter.

This features the first image on your wall and automatically hides the subsequent images.

Language

If you would like posts only in specific languages to be displayed on your wall, you can add your preferences with the Language Filter.

1. In the dropdown list, select the languages you would like to filter by. Our filter lets you choose multiple languages as well

2. Sometimes, Walls.io can't automatically detect the language of a post – for example, a post caption contains only hashtags. As a result, the post will still be displayed even when you filter for certain languages. You can disable this from occurring by clicking the toggle button here.

AI Spam

Our AI Spam Filter helps you save time by automatically blocking hashtag spam, inappropriate material, and harmful content to ensure your social wall remains professional and on-brand.

Use the slider (labelled 1) to set the level of sensitivity for the filter.

You can read more about each setting in the description below the slider, but the Strict setting will hide any post that appears to be spam while the Default mode will hide only posts that are explicitly spam.

AI Sentiment

Our AI Sentiment Filter evaluates the tone of incoming content and categorizes them as positive, neutral, or negative. You can hide (negative) content that does not align with your brand tone and keep posts that are positively scored.

1. Select the sentiment type from the dropdown.

2. Sometimes, Walls.io can't automatically detect the sentiment of a post – for example, a post caption contains only hashtags. As a result, the post will still be displayed even when you filter for a specific tone. You can disable this from occurring by clicking the toggle button here.

Date/Time

You can also choose to filter posts based on a time frame. If you have a short-term campaign or only want the posts to be curated from the start of a event, for example, you can set these parameters using the Date/Time Filter.

1. Use the dropdown to select whether you want the posts to be curated from Before, After, or Between the dates selected in step 2.

2. Set the time frame in the calendar display.
